FAQ's
Here are a few frequently asked questions:
Question: Do you offer shuttles?
Answer: No, the hostel does not operate its own shuttle service. However, we would be happy to refer you to one of our local driver contacts if you want to get around. Most of them charge a flat rate or per mile.

Question: How do you get to the hostel on foot/bicycle?
Answer: Although multiple shortcuts exist between the C&O Canal / AT and the parallel road we are connected to (Sandy Hook Rd), we cannot condone their use since they live on CSX's private property. Cyclists and hikers can access the hostel via road. Just 1 mile away is an official RR crossing point from the C&O / AT onto Keep Tryst Road, with a parking area. From there, guests can walk left up Keep Tryst Road and left onto Sandy Hook Road, where the hostel is the first driveway on the left. Directions are accurate on Google Maps.

Question: Where is the nearest food resupply? Do you sell food?
Answer: We do not currently sell any food concessions or resupply at Cross Trails, no. However, we are fortunate to have a few businesses conveniently located just down the road to serve you. The Guide House Grill is located 0.3 mi down the road and serves the best home-cooked food and drinks until 8 p.m. except on Mondays and Tuesdays. Next to the restaurant, there’s also the Hillside Crown gas station, which offers a limited selection of snacks, soda, frozen food, and tobacco. The nearest grocery store is Weis in Brunswick, MD- an 8-minute drive down US Route 340. Lastly, there is an Aldi, Food Lion, and Walmart 17 mins down US Route 340 in the other direction towards Charles Town.

Question: Is Cross Trails Hostel open year-round?
Answer: We usually close the hostel for a little while every winter since the cost of operation exceeds our income. Check our announcements on social media, or contact us directly for questions about our winter months of operation.
